Welcome to Service2Sumter

Service2Sumter is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services and opportunities to underserved communities in Sumter, Hale, and Greene Counties, Alabama. Our mission is to empower and uplift rural populations by addressing critical needs and fostering educational growth.

ABOUT US

Service2Sumter was founded by Alonzo Akeem Jackson, a Sumter County native and U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. After his service, Jackson returned to Sumter to give back to his community. His experience managing Lake Forest Estates and working closely with the USDA inspired him to establish Service2Sumter in 2022.

Since then, the organization has provided critical home repair services, disaster relief, and community outreach to underserved populations in Sumter County and beyond. Service2Sumter operates on the belief that everyone deserves safe housing and access to essential resources, regardless of income or age.

  • To serve the underserved by connecting rural community members with the resources they need to improve their quality of life, living conditions, and access to education.

  • Since its inception in 2022, Service2Sumter has significantly impacted the rural communities of Sumter, Hale, and Greene Counties, Alabama, by addressing critical housing, health, and educational needs. The organization has provided essential home repairs, long-term recovery services, and health and safety improvements for low-income residents, leveraging partnerships with organizations like HUD and USDA. Service2Sumter has facilitated access to over $450,000 in funding for individuals in need via President Joe Biden’s 2022 Presidentially Declared Disaster funding, directly improving the quality of life for dozens of families. In 2024, the organization expanded its efforts with the Housing and Urban Development/ Alabama Department of Public Health Lead-Based Capacity Building Grant, hiring staff, collaborating with the City of York, AL, state partners, and laying the groundwork for enhanced community safety and education initiatives. Service2Sumter continues to empower its communities by fostering opportunities for growth, equity, and sustainability.
