Protecting Families. Creating Safer Homes.

The City of York, in partnership with  Service2Sumter, the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), and UA SafeState, has been awarded a HUD Lead-Based Paint Capacity Building Grant. This program is designed to protect children and families from the dangers of lead-based paint and other environmental health hazards found in older homes.

Through this grant, we are working to identify and eliminate lead hazards in qualifying homes throughout York and surrounding areas, while also building local capacity to sustain long-term lead-safe housing. In addition to lead remediation, the program also includes support for Healthy Homes interventions, helping families create safer, more livable spaces.

  • Unsafe housing conditions, such as lead-based paint, leaky roofs, and inadequate plumbing, pose significant health risks to vulnerable populations. By combining USDA and HUD funding, we ensure that:

    • Families can stay in their homes without the threat of unsafe conditions.

    • Low-income homeowners can access financial assistance without bearing undue financial burden.

    • Long-term health risks and associated costs are minimized.
