Service2Sumter is a nonprofit organization founded by Executive Director Alonzo Akeem Jackson, a proud native of Sumter County who graduated from Sumter Central High School in 2012. Shortly after, Jackson joined the United States Army in 2012 and was deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, for seven months in 2013.
After exiting the service in 2016, Jackson chose to focus on community management at Lake Forest Estates Phase I&II, where he served as community manager for two years. During this time, he dedicated countless hours to improving the complex's infrastructure. His outstanding efforts were recognized when he was nominated for Manager of the Year by the United States Department of Agriculture after passing state audits with zero findings.
In 2022, Jackson discovered the USDA’s 504 and 502 grants and began offering free services to elderly individuals in Sumter County seeking home repair grants. His initiative became the catalyst for multiple home repair grants in the area, as he successfully streamlined the application process.
In 2023, following President Joseph R. Biden's approval of the Alabama disaster relief declaration, there arose a significant need for a packager in Sumter, Greene, and Hale counties. Rising to the challenge, Jackson started packaging applications for residents impacted by severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes.
